Since the first MELODI workshop in Stuttgart the European low dose risk research strategy has made significant progress. A new Network of Excellence, called DoReMi, has been set up in January 2010 between 12 partners with a duration of six years. DoReMi is supported by a grant within the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Atomic Energy Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities. During this period of time, DoReMi is responsible for:

• paving the way to European integration of R&T programmes in the field of low dose risks;
• developing a first step of a Strategic Research Agenda called Transition Research Agenda (TRA);
• developing multidisciplinarity between radiobiology, dosimetry and epidemiology.

DoReMi’s 2nd competitive call

DoReMi’s 2nd competitive call has now been opened. The call announcement as well as other related documentation are available at the public DoReMi website: http://www.doremi-noe.net/call_infos.html. All organisations that are not yet partners in DoReMi, are allowed to participate.

Short courses sponsored by DoReMi

DoReMi is a Euratom-funded Network of Excellence set up to promote and integrate European research into the risks of exposure to low doses of ionising radiation. In addition, DoReMi will facilitate and promote training and education in support of the research programme within the project, and also make more widely available training opportunities in order to help attract top-level students into the field.
Following the successful series of short courses sponsored by DoReMi in 2011, a further six courses of 2-3 weeks duration on single topics related to the research programme will be held in 2012.

DoReMi Training courses 2012:

	Radiation Epidemiology and Radio-Ecology 13 February - 2 March, three weeks HMGU, Germany
	Radiation-induced effects with particular emphasis on genetics, development, teratology, cognition as well as space-related health issues 5 March - 16 March, two weeks SCK-CEN , Belgium
	Interdisciplinary radiation research focussing on low doses 16 April to 27 April, two weeks BfS, Germany
	CELOD: cellular effects of low doses and low dose-rates with focus on DNA damage and stress response 16 April - 27 April 2012, two weeks Stockholm University, Sweden
	Training course in molecular mechanism of radiation carcinogenesis 30 April - 13 May, two weeks HMGU, Germany
	Modelling radiation effects from initial physical events 28 May - 8 June, two weeks UniPv, Italy

There will be no course fee. There will also be some limited support for accommodation costs from some of the participating institutions.

DoReMi Training Courses will be open to any postgraduate student or researcher interested in a research career in the scientific disciplines related to radiation protection. In the student selection, priority will be given to students coming from DoReMi partner organisations and from EU member states. Students outside EU can be accepted if there is space. The admission will be decided case by case.
